family picture Success Stories

Securing services for children and adults with developmental disabilities can be one of the most challenging experiences family members and guardians face as they care for their loved ones. Parents and caregivers are often told that they are not eligible for services or that critical funding is not available. But by learning more about how to navigate the disability system, many families are able to obtain benefits to which the disabled person is entitled under the law.

Free Workshops presented by Attorney Robert H. Farley, Jr. are helping families obtain the critical services they need (see below for workshops scheduled in March). Following are just a few examples in which families have used what they learned to make a difference for their children.
  1. After attending a Workshop presented by Attorney Robert H. Farley, Jr., a family was successful in obtaining Home Based Support Services from the State of Illinois for their two developmentally disabled children without resorting to litigation. Prior to attending the Workshop, the family had been told that they could not obtain funding. After the Workshop, the family followed the strategy outlined by Robert H. Farley, Jr.

  2. After attending a Workshop a family learned how to handle Guardianship on their own and the money which they saved allowed them to establish a Special Needs Trust so that the funds in the Trust would not make the disabled child ineligible for government benefits.

  3. A family was able to resolve a special education transportation issue after attending the seminar by simply asking a question at the conclusion of the Workshop and using Attorney’s Farley legal advice with the School District. Generally, there is time after the Workshop for families to ask individual questions.

  4. Two families with medically fragile children were able to prevent the State of Illinois from reducing their Medicaid benefits (skilled nursing services) at age 21 as the result of Robert H. Farley, Jr. securing federal court orders against the State of Illinois in September, 2009.
Parents, professionals & educators need information and resources to successfully navigate the Illinois disability system. Information on upcoming workshop events and the topics they'll cover is below. Register today to attend.
